Mon Shelford is a soulful singer-songwriter whose roots stretch across cultures and continents. From a young age, music played a central role in Mon’s life. She began private vocal training with Barry Fell at just seven years old. During this time, she also competed in the Napier Operatic Society Easter Competitions gaining valuable performance experience and developing a strong technical foundation that continues to shape her sound today.

Mon’s later musical journey took her to Melbourne where she immersed herself in the city’s vibrant live music scene. There, she performed as the lead singer in multiple original bands, gaining extensive experience in songwriting, collaboration, and live performance. Alongside this, she busked on the streets—refining her artistry in real time and connecting with diverse audiences. She also recorded her debut project, Belmar Sessions, marking the beginning of her professional recording career.

Returning home to Aotearoa, Mon established herself within the local music scene building a reputation for authentic, captivating live performances. Whether in intimate settings or on larger stages, her presence is warm, engaging, and deeply felt. Mon continues to perform and evolve, carrying with her the strong musical foundation built in her early years and a wealth of experience from both solo and band settings.
